Nouman Gaafar's journey as an artist began at the University of Sudan for Science and Technology, College of Fine and Applied Arts where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in 1994, specializing in Sculpture and Drawing. His early work, notably wood carving reliefs, life size figurative sculpture, terracotta portraits beautifully reflects the diversity and richness of Sudanese culture and tribes, earning him recognition in his field. In pursuit of further artistic development, Gaafar migrated to the United States in 1996, where he achieved a Master of Arts (MA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Dallas in Texas by 2002, focusing his talents once again on Sculpture and Fine Arts.

Gaafar's artistic footprint spans across Dallas, Texas, and Denver, Colorado, primarily showcasing his work in his studio and at Space Gallery located in Denver Colorado. In 2016, driven by a dream to contribute to the cultural fabric of his birthplace, Gaafar returned to Khartoum, Sudan. There, he established the Khartoum Arts Training Centre, a beacon for young artists where he imparts his knowledge and skills in drawing, painting, and sculpture, marking a significant contribution to Sudan's cultural development.
